Club Captains 2021

Club Captains 2021

CLUB CAPTAINS: Huge congratulations to our new Club Captains, Fearne Ackroyd and James Pridmore, elected at our club Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 27th April 2021!

RETURN TO SWIMMING: All swimmers, coaches and helpers need to complete the below 'Return to Training' form before entering the centre - we require this only once. Some copies will be available outside the centre.

Our return to swimming policy is now in line with schools and NHS advice - so, all swimmers can attend unless 1) they have been told to self-isolate or 2) they are showing symptoms of or have COVID-19, in which case they need to refrain from coming back to training until they are told they can.

Could swimmers, coaches and helpers please complete this form for every training session attended in order for us to have an electronic database of new information. The Health Forms x 2 (which only need to be completed and returned once) are here:

Health Survey | Return To Training Form

Hard copies will be available at the sessions.

Could all swimmers make sure to bring a full set of equipment.

Please arrive in plenty of time, swim ready and assemble outside the centre's doors. Swimmers will be led to poolside by Northern helpers. Please be aware that we have time slots to enter the centres and therefore latecomers may not be admitted. Thank you for adhering to all these necessary changes to enable us to continue swimming.

WELFARE OFFICER: Emma Bell has currently taken on the role of Welfare Officer in addition to her other duties as Chairperson of the club. If you have any concerns regarding welfare please contact her at or at a club session. However she is keen to hand this role over, so if you are interested in taking on this important job, please review the Job Description and then, if you are interested, please let a member of the committee know.

SPORTYSWIM: The local swimwear shop SportySwim has a new website and continues to offer our club members a discount. So if you need any swimwear or equipment then visit and enter the club's discount code NORTHERN in the checkout to get 10% off all orders on line.

AGM: We held our delayed 2020 AGM on Monday 30th November. Thanks to those who particated. At this meeting we said goodbye to Alison Nurse who has stepped down from her role as Welfare Office - many thanks for her many years of service to the club.

School Gala Participants

SCHOOL GALA SWIMMERS: Huge congratulations to 3 Northern swimmers who competed in a school gala on 27th February, with their school coming 1st and winning the trophy! Jack Marshall came 2nd in Breaststroke for Year 5. Aidan Dickie came 1st in Backstroke for Year 4. Leon Andreou came 1st in Front-crawl for Year 4 and he also swam in the cannon relay and his team came 1st!

HARVEY HADDEN PARKING CHARGES: From 1st January 2020, parking charges were introduced at Harvey Hadden. However parking is free of charge for up to a 3 hour period every day. You will have to use the RingGo web site or app or computer terminals in the foyer of Harvey Hadden and enter your car's registration plate. Please note that the RingGo website and app will default to sending you text notifications (text summary and text reminder) at a cost of 20p per text, so we suggest you untick this option to save money. See the RingGo web site here: Please note that, until further notice, parking charges at Harvey Hadden are suspended and parking is free of charge again.

SWIMMING CLUB MEMBERSHIP FEES: The NNSC committee has recently met and the fees for 2020 were discussed. Due to rising costs it was felt that it would be necessary to increase monthly fees for 2020 with effect from February 1st 2020. The decision was made to increase them to £29 per month, this is £25 monthly fees (for general running expenses) plus £4 membership, unchanged, (sent to Swim England, East Midlands and Nottinghamshire ASA regions). Nottingham Northern is one of the few clubs that spread the cost of the membership over 12 months; most clubs expect payment on January 1st. We still think that £25 is good value for money. Could you please alter your standing orders to the new amount of £29 and if you have any questions email our treasurer: If you are not renewing your membership for 2020 could you please let us know before January 1st.

CLUB NEWSLETTER - JUNE 2019: Please read the latest edition of the Northerner.

END OF AN ERA: Monday night was the last session for swimming teacher Matt Anderson, who due to work commitments has had to call time on teaching. Matt has been with the club for 15 years, starting his swimming journey with learn to swim, progressing through squads, Counties, Midlands and Nationals! As an ex National swimmer, Matt has been able to share his experiences with club swimmers and inspire them through his teaching, sometimes teaching from in the pool as well as on deck. Matt has been a true family member of the club for so many years and I would like to thank him for his dedication, and to wish him all the best for the future! Ian, Head Coach

Training Equipment: Training Equipment is now available to order from the desk on Fridays and Sundays. Please see the Swimming Equipment page for details of all the club's clothing, bags and training equipment.

New Club Structure: My coaching team and I have been reviewing the club structure, with the aim of simplifying it as well as adding in more swimming time for our younger swimmers. With effect from 1st January 2018, our swim session groups will be changing. We are introducing age group squads; Junior 1 & 2, Intermediate 1 & 2 and Seniors, which will follow on from our Teaching Groups 1 & 2. Although we will try to keep to age groups where possible, entry into these groups will also be based on technique, attitude, attendance and times, and so swimmers may be invited by myself to train in a higher squad. Squad reviews will take place periodically to help ensure swimmers are progressing in accordance with expectations, aspirations and ability. Please see the Training Schedule for the times of each group's sessions and details of the aims of each group. As always, please feel free to contact me should you have any questions or concerns. Best Wishes, Ian Fahy, Head Coach, Nottingham Northern Swimming Club.

Teaching and Coaching Incentive Scheme: The club has introduced a NNSC Teaching and Coaching Incentive Scheme to encourage more parents and swimmers to become teachers and coaches.

Friends of Northern: The club has launched a "Friends of Northern" group to help former members keep in contact with the club. Please read more here.
